Friday, August 18th A Weekend in Rochester NY

We were invited to a surprise, 60th birthday party for Fred Hamaker....a long time friend from Rochester NY. So we drove out to Rochester, NY for the weekend.  Don and I spent lots of time checking in on our old stomping grounds.  We lived there from 1979 until 1982.
We drove by our old house at 116 Long Park Drive, Greece
We took a run on the trail that goes by the river, passing by the Genesse River Gorge and the Kodak plant.

Monday August 14 Finding Boreas Pond

A three mile drive, then a three mile walk along a rough dirt road took us into Boreas Pond, a newly acquired body of water for the ADK from The Nature Conservancy.  There's no way to get a boat into there except on hoof (human or horse) so we just decided to see what the hype was all about and if it would be worth the effort to get a boat in there to paddle around. Turns out it would be. The pond and the views were beautiful.

The road in is called Gulf Brook Road.  It's mostly flat and is almost 100% in the woods.

The High Peaks are front and center at Boreas Pond

A White Throated Sparrow hopped and sang in the nearby woods

Frog in the pond

Ivy enjoys the view

We ate lunch on a rock in the river flowing out of the pond, and enjoyed an after lunch nap.

Saturday, August 12th A Rattlesnake Hike and Creemees for the Pups

The gang rests on a rock atop Rattlesnake to enjoy the view

Every time I reach the top, I am amazed by the view
There weren't any blueberries, but there were juniper berries

Part of the tree chain gang?

No trip up Rattlesnake is complete without a stop at Ethel's. All the pups get a vanilla creemee, which they are all intent on lapping up.

No seat belt is holding Reesie back!
Walter stands up for this affair
Ivy has her cup of vanilla lapped into the corner
